Beyond Walls: Exploring Experiences of Home Through Creative Methods

We are delighted to extend a warm invitation to you for a remarkable community event that promises to be both insightful and enriching.

Event Details:

  • Title: Beyond Walls: Exploring Experiences of Home Through Creative Methods

  • Date: Wednesday, February 21st

  • Time: 4:00-5:30 pm

  • Venue: Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre, Classroom 17

Overview of the Event:

You are invited to join Dr Grace Tidmarsh from the University of Birmingham’s SPRINT Project (UK) to explore different experiences of home through poetry and art. Maybe you’ve written lots of poetry or perhaps, none at all, but all are welcome to come along—no prior experience is needed. The workshop will begin with a brief overview of Dr Tidmarsh’s work within youth homelessness, before looking at homelessness through the lens of those who have experienced it with a poetry reading. This will be followed by an opportunity for you to write your own poem or create a drawing based on the concept of home. The workshop aims to challenge harmful negative stereotypes on the notion of home and homelessness.

About Dr. Grace Tidmarsh:

Dr. Grace Tidmarsh is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Sport and Exercise Psychology, completing an interdisciplinary, ESRC funded Postdoctoral Fellowship across the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences and the School of Geography, Earth, and Environmental Sciences. The international research visit of Dr Tidmarsh, hosted by Professor Jacqueline Kennelly and the Centre for Urban Youth Research, focuses on advancing an interdisciplinary approach with expertise in social policy, youth, and complex community settings.

Sincerely,

Centre for Urban Youth Research
