University of Newcastle

David Farrugia is Senior Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Newcastle. His research has explored youth homelessness, rural youth, and youth, labour and identity, including regional youth unemployment and young people in the immaterial economy. His current projects include an exploration of young people and hospitality labour and the formation of young people as workers in regions of high youth unemployment.

David is on the editorial board of the Journal of Youth Studies and Sociological Research Online. His most recent book is titled Spaces of Youth: Work, Citizenship and Culture in a Global Context, published by Routledge.

We acknowledge that the Centre for Urban Youth Research is located on the unceded and unsurrendered territories of the Algonquin-Anishnaabe peoples. As guests in this territory, we strive to work in collaboration and solidarity with the Algonquin peoples and other Indigenous, First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples on Turtle Island and globally to advance the recognition of truth and the fulfilment of (re)conciliation.
