Professor Anita Harris is a Research Professor and Chair in Sociology at the Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation, Deakin University Australia, and the co-leader of the ‘Youth, Diversity and Wellbeing in a Digital Age’ research and program stream of its Centre for Resilient and Inclusive Societies. She is a sociologist specializing in youth citizenship in changing times, with a focus on cultural diversity, mobility, gender, social inclusion and civic engagement in a globalised, mobile world. She works within international debates in youth citizenship studies and especially new frameworks for understanding contemporary participatory practices in the context of migration, diversity and globalisation.

She has recently completed an Australian Research Council Future Fellowship on ‘Young People and Social Inclusion in the Multicultural City’. She is currently undertaking two Australian Research Council Discovery Projects: ‘Fostering Global Digital Citizenship: Diaspora Youth in a Connected World’ (Johns, Walton, Caluya & Harris) and ‘Understanding the Effects of Transnational Mobility on Youth Transitions’ (Harris, Baldassar & Robertson). She is the author of many works in youth studies and girls' studies, including Thinking About Belonging in Youth Studies (with Cuervo & Wyn; forthcoming);Young People and Everyday Multiculturalism (2013), Next Wave Cultures: Feminism, Subcultures, Activism (ed) (2008), Young Femininities (with Aapola & Gonick) (2005); Future Girl (2004), and All About the Girl (ed) (2004).
