Nicholas Ng-A-Fook

Dr. Nicholas Ng-A-Fook is a bilingual Professor of Curriculum Studies at the University of Ottawa. He served his community as the former Director of Teacher Education and Indigenous Teacher Education programs. He is currently working on several nationally funded research projects that seek to address how Indigenous, newcomer, and refugee families continue to experience ongoing systemic inequities in relation to a curriculum-as-planned, -implemented, and -lived here on the traditional and unceeded territories of the Algonquin First Nations people.

As part of his teachings, research, and collaborations with different communities, he recently launched Fooknconversation, a podcast series that talks about "acadmicky" stuff with different public intellectuals, writers, artists, community activists, politicians, school administrators, and teachers. Dr. Ng-A-Fook remains committed to collaborating with different communities to learn and unlearn his complicity with settler colonial systems and their ongoing intergenerational impacts.

We acknowledge that the Centre for Urban Youth Research is located on the unceded and unsurrendered territories of the Algonquin-Anishnaabe peoples. As guests in this territory, we strive to work in collaboration and solidarity with the Algonquin peoples and other Indigenous, First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples on Turtle Island and globally to advance the recognition of truth and the fulfilment of (re)conciliation.
