Stephen Mensah

Stephen is a Ryerson University student pursuing a Criminology and Politics & Governance double major (honors). He is an active member of the York South-Weston Community, serving as a Youth Director at For Youth Initiative, a local non profit organization. He has used his platform to help make changes to the Youth Drop-In Space with promoting education-focused programming.

Stephen also serves as the Education Lead for the Toronto Youth Cabinet, the City of Toronto’s official youth advisory body; where he aims to tackle issues revolving around equity in education.

Stephen has made it a priority to promote awareness to issues revolving around marginalized youth and community member involvement for positive changes. He was a Co-Researcher with the University of Toronto (OISE). The project focused on the Black Lives Matter and Idle No More social movements to discover its impact on Black and Indigenous youth. Witnessing first hand how marginalized groups experience systemic and social barriers, Stephen is committed to being an advocate for change.

We acknowledge that the Centre for Urban Youth Research is located on the unceded and unsurrendered territories of the Algonquin-Anishnaabe peoples. As guests in this territory, we strive to work in collaboration and solidarity with the Algonquin peoples and other Indigenous, First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples on Turtle Island and globally to advance the recognition of truth and the fulfilment of (re)conciliation.
